First SF6 Gas Circuit Breaker developed by CG Team was the first of its own kind which ensured optimum use of thermal energy of the arc that required low operating mechanism energy. This development has provided an advantage for reduction in mechanism energy and in turn for high reliability of the breaker. These GCBs are of Live Tank Design with Motor or manual charged spring opening-spring closing operating mechanism and are capable of interrupting all possible switching duties. The breakers are of single break interrupter design and employ dual flow puffer action for current interruption. This ensures high operational reliability and safety of power transmission and distribution system.
The GCBs are capable of clearing the sever rate of rise of recovery voltage due to short line faults and high recovery voltage peak due to out of phase switching. Small currents such as capacitor bank switching currents, transformer magnetising currents, cable or line charging current are interrupted smoothly without any re-strikes or re-ignition and over voltages are minimized.
