Guaiba's Industrial District will receive Electrical Equipment Factory
The corner stone for a new transformer factory, in Guaiba’s Industrial District, in the metropolitan area, was laid on November 25, 2011. CG Power Systems do Brazil will manufacture transformers and circuit breakers at the Guaiba location.
The enterprise in Guaiba will manufacture power transformers having a rating of 400 MVA - 500 kV. The factory will employ 250 people, with an investment of $ 47 million (US $).
A second project is under development at Sapucaia do Sul, where a facility is being built for assembly and testing of SF6 circuit breakers of up to 230kV. The facility will employ 20 people, with an investment of $1.7 million (USD).
The corner stone ceremony occurred on the 27 hectares lot, on which CG Power Systems do Brazil is making its first investment in Latin America and CG executives were assisted by the secretary of Investment Development and Promotion (SDPI), Mauro Knijnik and Guaiba’s mayor, Henrique Tavares.
- Our investment in Rio Grande do Sul is a long term investment; we have a lot to do here. This is our first factory in Latin America – said Laurent Demortier.
For the Secretary Mauro Knijnik, the CG Power Systems do Brazil installation strengthens the strategy of utilization (exploitation) of the area of the Guaiba’s Industrial District, where the government of the state is making infrastructure investments.
- It is solid companies that will expand a lot in Rio Grande do Sul. They are studying the possibility to increase the investment they will make in our State – affirmed Knijnik.
Since the construction still depends on the environment license from the State Environment Protection Foundation (Fepam), another facility is being prepared in Sapucaia do Sul, in order to speed up CG’s market penetration.
