CG Power Solutions USA Inc formerly MSE Power Systems, Inc. is a highly focused solution provider, specializing in industrial and utility power systems. It was incorporated in 1981 as the engineering and procurement division of a 75 year electrical contracting firm.In 2008, MSE became a part of the CG worldwide family.

The Business of CG Power Solutions USA forms an integral part of the Power Systems Strategic Business Unit of CG.



The Company's capabilities include engineering (E), engineering / procurement (EP) and engineering / procurement / construction (EPC) services including construction management and testing & commissioning. CG Power Solutions' staff, currently numbering over 180 employees, includes professional engineers, senior and associate engineers, designers, computer and field technicians, estimators and administrative staff. The Company has the capability to perform all work in-house (engineering, procurement, project management and commissioning / testing) with the exception of the actual construction which CG Power Solutions subcontracts.

Electrical :

CG Power Solutions USA specializes in the design of high and medium voltage substations, transmission lines and distribution systems. Its team has extensive experience designing Utility and non Utility substations throughout the United States. Its experience extends over a variety of many different substation and line configurations. It has been very successful executing large turnkey full substation projects as well as small engineering only breaker replacement projects. The in-house staff of the substation design department repeatedly demonstrates the capability to design all aspects of substations including electrical, structural and protection & controls. The engineering group is broken into six disciplines, Electrical, Substation Physical, Civil, SCADA, Power Studies and Transmission / Distribution Line. It has performed projects connecting various types of generators to the transmission grid. It has connected generation to Utilities across the USA and Canada. It also has extensive experience in all area of power generation including generation of wind power and solar power. It has been involved with 8700MW of wind interconnected in the US. It has designed complete wind farms from the generators to the grid interconnection point. It has also designed complete solar photovoltaic generation systems of Utility scale.


Transmission :

The projects have ranged from 12KV to 765KV, and these have been implemented geographically across the USA (including some non-USA projects). It is currently working for several utilities on projects as diverse as new EHV Transmission lines, voltage upgrades and conductor replacements on existing lines, tower and pole analyses for upgrade projects, distribution projects both overhead and underground and cell phone antenna attachments. Specific duties and experience of the Company includes existing transmission line studies, existing structure evaluation for new equipment and antenna attachments, design and analysis of existing transmission lines for re-conductoring, lattice tower design, foundation design and analysis for both existing and new transmission lines, routing studies for new transmission lines, ROW acquisition, permitting support, preliminary engineering design and Plan & Profile drawings, LIDAR and conventional survey services (using a sub-consultant), BOM preparation, EMF calculations, vegetation management support. The Transmission / Distribution group also routinely performs bid document preparation, preparation of construction specifications, and construction coordination, support, and supervision for power lines. Its projects have ranged from engineering only projects to full EPC projects where it takes total responsibility for the entire project.


Structural :

The Structural/Civil Engineering staff of the Company consists of a large and diverse group of individuals each with core experience in structural / civil engineering covering not only the "traditional" Electrical Power Industry facilities such as substations and transmission/distribution lines, but also many other features that an Electrical Power Company might encounter. This includes design and rehabilitation of heavy industry facilities including industrial plants, general building design including storage and maintenance facilities, in-depth field inspection and specialized testing, advanced structural analysis and design, complicated site and deep excavation design, environmental issues, building code compliance issues, peer review, special inspections, crane and specialty rigging operations, scaffolding and shoring, vibration analysis, forensic investigations and failure analyses, hydraulic and hydrological analysis and design, bridge design and analysis, construction supervision, and many others. CGPSOL's structural / civil staff includes many licensed Professional Engineers, many Engineers-In-Training, and many designer / detailers. Its projects have ranged from engineering only projects to full EPC projects where it takes total responsibility for the entire project. The Structural / Civil staff is organized into two main groups - a Transmission / Distribution Group and a Substation Group and these two work closely together.


Procurement :

Equipment is available from any manufacturer and the Company has strong relationships with many well-known suppliers. Lead times are shorter than the industry average and it provides equipment packages which are completely engineered. It has global sourcing capabilities and can work with blanket orders as well as project specific procurement.


Construction :

On average the site managers have 20 years of years of experience and provide 24 hour on-site management. It has extensive substation and transmission installation experience along with having a history of excellent subcontractor performance, with whom it maintains strong working relationships with. Construction capabilities include complete PM/scheduling, QC, and a safety program.


Testing and Commissioning :

CG Power Solutions USA offers complete testing and commissioning in-house with a full suite of modern test equipment: Substation HV equipment testing, protective relay testing, and overall system functional testing.


Project Management Services :

The Project Management Office is founded on industry recognized standards and guidelines such as Project Management Body of Knowledge and Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3). An internal set of Project Management procedures and customized project management tools aid project managers in delivering complex substation, transmission line, and wind farm projects on time, within estimated budget and with expected quality. Experienced project managers who have been working with more than sixty utility, large industrial, and renewable energy clients over the last fifteen years deliver their projects successfully by maintaining a constant focus on main project areas: Contract (scope of work), Schedule, Cost, Quality and Risk.

It provides Project Management services to monitor each project performed and also field Project Management services. The field Project Managers monitor the construction and maintenance of all projects to ensure that the project meets all design requirements and is totally installed per plans and specifications. The field Project Managers work as a liaison between the engineering departments, the construction contractor and the client. Project Managers' experience is extensive in all areas of Electric Power Utility projects including transmission, distribution, substation, relay & controls, commissioning & testing, structures, foundations, environmental issues including soil conditions, and contract requirements.



The Company has successfully completed over 300 projects in 34 US states and 14 foreign countries ranging from 2.4 kV class to 500 kV class. It is responsible for interconnecting 22% of wind power in the United States.

Under the guidance of its full time Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety program is dedicated to providing a safe and healthful work environment. The Experience modification rate (EMR) is under 1.0 and it has not had a lost work time injury in the past five years. It has also have been recognized by its clients for outstanding safety performance at the Casper, WY Wind Power project, and emerged from a rigorous OSHA inspection at the Global Foundries project with no discrepancies and no citations.
