CORPORATE STRUCTURE
This factory was established in 1977 in Ireland for manufacture of distribution transformers by the Pauwels Group. In 2005, the Pauwels Group as a whole, including this facility, became a part of the CG worldwide family. Since then the Company has grown from strength to strength building strong customer relations and increasing production capacity and capability to the automation solutions domain.

Distribution Transformers
Standard Distribution Transformers (IEC, EN and ANSI standards)
The Company's facilities in Cavan, Ireland, offers a wide range of standard liquid-filled distribution transformers between 15 kVA and 5MVA.
The standard range of transformers includes Single Phase Transformers starting from 15 kVA, 3 phase transformers up to 36 kV and SLIMŽ transformers. SLIMŽ transformers, uniquely designed for the wind industry, are ideally suited for environments demanding the highest levels of safety and reliability. The Company's distribution transformers combine the multiple customer requirements of being reliable, energy efficient, environmentally friendly and cost-effective - all with a proven track record.
The design of the Company's medium power transformers unites the advantages of highly developed innovative design with mature manufacturing techniques which have sustained themselves through onerous constraints expected from high-end power transformers, thus yielding an economical yet high-performance product.

The Company is the leader of substation type transformers with 15 years of experience. It can provide complete solutions to its customer with MCBs, Switchgears and Cabinets. It also manufactures substation cabinets to IP54 standard.

These non-standard types are the result of extensive product development, based on anticipation, constant monitoring and evaluation of changing customer needs in the various market segments. It also has an electrical and mechanical design team on-site to ensure every product meets customer requirements.

Capabilities
- Tank Factory and Paint Line
The Irish plant is capable of making and painting its own tanks up to 1000 kg tank range. This brings plant flexibility to deliver transformers with an 8 week lead time for a standard transformers.
The Company's superior paint system, incorporates zinc phosphating and electrically applied liquid paint under the customer specified final powder coating. The system is one of the most up-to-date developments in the field of finishing and the quality obtained is comparable with that required by today's automotive industry for modern car bodies.
Tests by independent laboratories have shown that transformer tanks treated in this way can easily withstand the 2,000 hours hot salt spray scribed test carried out in accordance with the ASTM B117 and DIN 50021 standards.
- R & D
R & D has been active in Ireland for two years and enjoys the support of the IDA. In 2009, many enhancements were achieved and new products have been developed and manufactured in Ireland. Some prominent examples are Scott Transformers and a 5 MVA Transformer with External On-Load Tap changers.
Automation Solutions Division
Established in 1986 and trading formerly as Microsol, the Automation Solutions Division is the Global Automation solutions provider for the Power Systems Strategic Business Unit of CG. The Division is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, which also undertakes the R&D development in this business area.
The Automation Solutions Division is a leading developer of hardware and software for electricity utilities with particular focus on field automation solutions. Its areas of expertise are Substation Automation ('SA') solutions, Distribution Automation ('DA') solutions and engineering & consultancy services.
CG Automation Solutions has established a significant global footprint in the electricity transmission and distribution automation sector through the delivery of total solutions, reliable product and expertise in the development of communication protocols.
XCell
The Company's SA hardware solution is called XCell. It is an intelligent information platform developed to meet the unique field automation needs of power utilities. XCell is a modular platform with features including protocol conversion, substation communication, I/O data monitoring and physical automation. XCell can be fitted to new substations or retro-fitted to existing substations and can be fully integrated with other substation equipment. It provides flexibility and scalability to accommodate power utilities of varying scale.
Workbench
The Company's Workbench software solution is a user interface for XCell. Windows based, Workbench allows remote and local systems access. Its key components are a monitoring and diagnostics tool, a remote configuration tool, an application development tool, a firmware flash programming tool and a systems analysis capacity.
RCAM
The Company's DA hardware solutions are grouped under its RCAM suite. They specifically focus on switching and fault protection and are installed pole-top or in street-side control units enabling network faults to be identified and system breaks to be swiftly repaired. The suite includes integrated switchgear controllers, an information platform and a fault detection unit. RCAM is unique as the only non-intrusive switch in its market. All systems can be new-fitted or retro-fitted.
Consultancy
In addition to producing hardware and software solutions, The Company provides engineering and consultancy services to its clients, enabling the Company to leverage its considerable power utility technology and market experience. In addition to the turnkey delivery of full substation automation systems, the Company offers Smart Grid solutions providing intelligent restoration of secondary distribution networks as well as WindSCADA applications that can provide the comprehensive management of wind farm operations.
The major customers of the Company comprise vertically-integrated generation, transmission and distribution companies globally as well as many of the UK Distribution Network Operators and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and niche industrial solutions providers.
Capabilities in R&D
Ongoing R&D operations are centred in Dublin and this group supplies new technology to the other regional Automation Systems business units located in UK and US. The R&D department's efforts are focused on developing new physical hardware modules and the associated software functionality within the product as well as in the development of user configuration and diagnostic tools to interface with the product.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The Company is experienced in the delivery of solutions to the latest emerging industry standards (IEC 61850) and supplied the very first IEC 61850 solution into East Africa in the form of a total substation automation solution for 132kV and 33kV substations.
A new concept (S-Series) improving the image of a transformer has been designed and produced in Ireland in 2009.
CERTIFICATIONS
The Distribution Transformer facility manufactures to IEC, EN and ANSI standards; It is certified to ISO 9001:2000 (quality), ISO 14001:2004 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001 (Safety).
The Automation Systems Division is certified to the ISO 9001:2008 quality standards.
